Hot / Cold Therapy


General Guidelines

  • Don’t use gel pack directly on bare skin. Always place on a cloth or towel to avoid heat or cold burns
  • Limit the application of the gel pack to 15-20 minutes at a time and then repeat every 1 to 1.5 hours as needed. Consult your physician regarding extended use
  • Dispose gel pack if damaged or worn

Cold Use Instructions

Cold therapy is recommended for the first 48 hours following the injury.
  1. Store the gel pack in the freezer and refrigerate for at least 2 hours (you can also leave the gel pack in the freezer for future use)
  2. Apply the gel pack to the desired area over a cloth or towel

Hot Use Instructions

Hot therapy should not be used until 48 hours after the injury.
Hot Water Heating:
  1. Put water into a pot and bring to a boil
  2. Remove water from heat source
  3. Immerse the gel pack in the hot water for approximately 10 minutes
  4. Remove the gel pack from the water, wipe it off, and apply to the desired area over a cloth or a towel
Microwave Heating:
  1. Lay pack flat in the microwave oven on a paper towel or paper plate
  2. Heat at full power for 30 seconds. If pack expands like a balloon: Stop heating, the pack is too hot, let pack cool and check for leaks.
  3. Remove pack carefully from microwave oven and knead to distribute heat evenly. Check for desired temperature
  4. To reheat, place pack back in microwave for 10-second intervals until desired temperature is reached. Knead pack again to distribute heat.
  5. Apply to the desired area over a cloth or towel
